what, oh, what does the future hold?

As a recent graduate (as well as someone with a lot of free time on their hands), I can't help but think often about my future. Where am I going? Where do I want to go? Am I taking the right steps to get there? I've always been goal oriented, growing up I was always sure of what I wanted and how my life was going to be. As you might have guessed, a lot has changed since then (including my major), and I'm finding myself in a completely different life scenario than I ever imagined. Yet I still wonder, what will I be doing at this time next year? Or five years from now? Life has become so unexpected for me, and to my surprise I'm loving every minute of it. I have no idea where I will be in five years, I have my passions and I will continue to pursue them to the very best of my abilities...but I also think it's important to remember that things don't always go as planned, and most of the time it's because you will end up in an even better place than you've imagined. Sometimes I need to remember to breathe and let things take their natural course, you know? I find my peace in nature...even in a city, where there is less than I am used to, Gavin and I have found small woods and large fields, tons of beautiful parks and are even finding beauty in the city streets among the planted gardens and old stone buildings^.^ It's truly been special living here so far.
I hope everyone is enjoying thier spring season!

poutine fest!

This past weekend was POUTINE FEST. For all you non-Canadian's poutine is a delicious combination of fries, cheese curds and gravy, mmmm. It was my first time experiencing something like this, and I'm glad I did. It was great! We went in the morning so it wasn't too busy, but there were trucks lined up for blocks with poutine mostly but pizza, donuts, ice cream and so many other treats. You will have to forgive my enthusiasm, I am a food enthusiast and truly had a magical day spent here. The poutine was great (especially the curds), Gavin had deep fried donuts which were apparently amazing and I literally had the best ice cream I've ever tasted!
This is basically what a comfortable and casual outfit looks like for me (I'm rarely out of a dress, which I find to be more comfortable than pants anyway). Just a slouchy tee shirt and high-waisted denim shorts. These shorts were originally a pair of mom shorts I thrifted and went scissor happy with and ta-da, the best fitting high waisted shorts ever! I hope to find more before summer! Anyway, I hope you are all having a happy monday and have a lovely week ahead of you!

A beautiful day in the neighborhood

Gavin and I have been exploring our new neighborhood alot and liking what we see! We live in such a quaint and quiet area, it doesn't even feel like we're in the city at all sometimes, which can be nice since we are both lovers of nature and tranquility. We even found a nice field and some woods about a block away, it's beautiful and I can't wait to take some photos.
Anywho, the weather is progressively getting warmer, I still need tights and a light sweater most times, but in the afternoon when the sun is shining its brightest I am out in a tee shirt and comfortable! Now that it's spring it's time to whip out my pinafore collection, this one is my favorite. The denim give the skirt a nice shape and I can basically pair it with anything ^.^

festival season *

Festival season has officially begun! I thought it would be fun to do a small post on festival wear, and what I plan on bringing to the ones I will be attending this year!

1- INSTAX CAMERA: or basically a Polaroid or even film camera! They are small and easy to take quick photos with. Use your Polaroid camera all weekend but only look at the photos once its over; you will re-discover moments you've forgotten, and it will be a fun way to reminisce  after all is said and done

2- FLOWER CROWN: Because, let's face it, any chance you get to wear one, you take it.

3- JELLY SANDALS: I love jelly sandals (and need to acquire a pair as soon as I get the chance), they are comfortable and practical for a festival. The photo I've shown is heeled, but there are flats out there; and the jelly material is perfect in case of rain, your shoes won't get ruined!

4- CROCHET: Whether its a beautiful crochet dress such as this one from urban outfitters or a crochet top with some denim shorts, you're set!

5- JOURNAL: I know, I know...Who has time to journal when you're busy having fun? It's something I will be trying out, whenever I get to be a part of any exciting experience, I want to write about it as much as possible! I still have all my old journals and look back on them every so often, and it's always nostalgic and lovely. Although I haven't the patience to write in one every day, maybe if I start with adventures, festivals and travels I will become more dedicated over time!

First up, the tulip festival in about two weeks! I really cannot wait, I remember years ago I moved back home RIGHT before the tulip festival, and the city was already filled with tulips, it was so beautiful. I can't wait to experience it fully this year! I am going to blog about it in so much detail you will all be sick of tulips, I swear. Hopefully you are all having a beautiful week and get the chance to attend some festivals this summer ^.^

sunflower love

These were taken the day after I moved! It was such a beautiful day, we were so blessed. The  move went very smoothly, it did not take as much time or effort as I had anticipated which was nice. The next day we woke up in full adventure mode and decided to take a walk around parliament and the surrounding area. We managed to come across some some old abandoned buildings (and even managed to look around in some, shhh) , most of these photos were taken outside of one of them. The old stone is so beautiful, there's nothing more charming to me than an old building. You can literally see the history and stories within the stones, so lovely. It really was a magical day, not to mention warm enough to finally wear some summer clothes! This is one of my favorite skirts that I own, I adore yellow flowers, yellow is the happiest color to me.
This week is mostly job hunting for me, and I will hopefully find something I love ^.^ Wish me luck!

I'm blue, da ba di da ba dye

So, the other day, I had blue hair! It was completely an accident, but I can't say I didn't like it, even though I decided not to keep it. My original intention was purple, and now, as I am writing this, I am pink. I have a bit of a colour obsession and over the years I have managed to have my hair almost every color of the rainbow. I am, and always have been drawn to alternative modded women. Growing up my style icons were women such as gwen stefani, blondie, etc as well as women who were more geared toward sophistication like Audrey Hepburn. Now that I am older and am more aware of my own sense of style and self, this definitely makes sense to me. I adore all things vintage and lady-like, but I tend to mix these styles with some grunge or alternative elements. Defining one's style is typically difficult because almost none of us fall under one category. As humans we are multi-dimensional and are allowed to enjoy different things (contrary to popular beliefs) and it's fine to change with your mood. Feeling girly in a floral dress one day and suddenly a little cooler in a vintage tee and cut-offs doesn't make you a fake...in fact it makes you truer to who you are. Labels set limits, in anything, including style. We should all dress how we want, when we want, change what we want and evolve naturally.
Well, there's my little rant for the day. In other news, I am in Ottawa, moved in and loving every minute in the city.

precious moments

Well, Spring is officially here to stay (finally). When I'm not packing like a maniac or having outdoor adventures with Kayla and Gavin, I've been taking time for myself to get back into sketching as well as reading the literature I love. If I go too long without taking the time to do these things, I start to feel unlike myself, which is not fun. And so I suppose this post is serving as a little reminder to you all to take the time needed to do what you love. These are the things that give us inspiration in our daily lives to keep us going when it gets too rough or even just too busy.
Also, I move in 2 DAYS!!!!! How exciting, I hope your week is lovely and full of sunshine ^.^
