D.I.Y Wool Wall Hanging

Yesterday I was baby free ( My dad had him for the day so that I could rest a bit ), but as I'm not the lay-on-the-couch-all-day-watching-tv type I decided to try a little d.i.y project I've been meaning to get around to! It's definitely not perfect, but I always like my decor 1.handmade 2.a little wonky, you know something that shows it's unique and made with real hands!

All I used were:
1.thick branch (these can be found anywhere outside or in a woodland area ;) )

2. A string of twine

3.Scissors

4.Wool

5.Box (or something that can be used to measure string)

First Step: Take the twine and tie it tightly around both ends of your stick. This will be how your wall hanging will hang, so make sure it's the length you want, and test it out by hanging it off a nail or something before continuing.

Second Step: Take your wool and something to measure (I used this box) and simply wrapped it around 5 times (you can do more or less depending on how thick you want your string hanging), cut the end so you have five long pieces of string.

Third Step: Take the string and fold in over each side of the branch, then the knot you will do is in a single loop. So create a loop and bring around all the string through it and pull it tight. Keep repeating the 2nd and 3rd step until your branch is filled the way you like it.

Final Step: I wanted my wall hanging to be slanting toward the middle and so I trimmed the sides to angle downward.

Flower Power

 

When I got home from the hospital (To those who don't follow my instagram, I had a stroke but more on that another time, my little Forest had a bit of a cold and was a little fussy so Gavin and I rounded up some fresh blooms to mix with eucalyptus bubble bath and a few drops of lavender oil to start our day the best way we could think of! It was beautiful and so relaxing and Forest loved the flowers! It has gotten me so excited for spring and for the world around us to bloom as well!

& FORWARD

My bones are restless in waiting for spring's official arrival, and since it is still too cold to venture outdoors most days, we spend time planning ahead while taking care of now. It is so very important to be present during our daily interactions with our families, firends, strangers, all of it...but it is also important and even exciting to plan ahead. We were so focused on Forest's arrival that we hadn't quite figured out our next step from there as a family. Recently, through random events, information and with deep thought on my end and Gavin's, we finally feel a calling and are currently working toward a new future and home for our little family. Feeling fully how beautiful and adventurous and unexpected life is and embracing it ♡

A FIVE WEEK OLD FOREST AND A GREEN HOUSE

Somehow, in the midst of this new life, I have forgotten to post our greenhouse adventure photos (from when Forest was barely five weeks old) that one of my very favourite local photographers Marie-Pier Valiquette Photographie had taken of our freshly blooming family. 

I can still recall the intimate details of this day...the mist and drizzle that surrounded us everywhere but under the doms which safely housed many of the plants at this greenhouse, the slow waking of that morning, Forest's "grumpy eyes" (as Harlow and Rayne always called them) and funny faces all throughout the exploration of the plants and greenhouse grounds. We were given permission to enter the areas not available to the public where I was able to comfortably and happily nurse Forest. We spoke about childhood with one of the owners of the establishment  and when we got home Forest slept while Gavin and I relaxed with coffee and a Fleet Foxes record. It's this sort of ordinary magic that I love about my life with these two humans that I am permanately tethered to. 

Part of me is definitely happy I am only coming around to this post now, almost 8 months later, when Forest has grown and changed unfathomably and beautifuly but my god, so quickly! What a beautiful gift these photos are to look back on and remember Forest as he was, oh so small, curled up against our chests, peaceful and watchful and the most beautiful thing we've ever beheld- And also to remember our Family as it was then too, fresh and ever-changing and slow and fast and wonderful.
