#todayIfeltbeautiful series | D A I S I E S

If you missed my first post for this new series, I spoke a little on self love and how I was inspired to join my friend Hannah in a portrait series that she calls #todayIfeltbeautifulportraitseries . I'm loving it so far because it's allowing my to challenge myself 1. Love myself in this new mom body and hair style (why did I cut off all my hair again?) and 2. to become freer in front of the camera. When I photograph other people, I never tell them to pose (unless it's wedding portraits or something), I love capturing natural movement and raw emotion, however have never been to keen on being natural when it is only myself in front of the camera just because it's scary to be yourself and have other people see that raw side of you. In my first series, I was letting the wind wash over me, enjoying the mist in the air and taking in my surroundings; and I did my best to try and capture that. This time I was relaxing in the sunshine among the flowers and bugs, stretching, meditating, just being. It was wonderful and I felt beautiful. I want to invite and challenge other mama's or anyone struggling a little with self love to join this wonderful project!

11 month old adventures xox

Mist & Mountains

A couple of weeks ago, I had the morning to myself. I woke and sipped coffee and watched the mist move around the hills from my back door and decided to go out and soak it all up. As always, I brought my camera, and decided to take some self portraits. My dear friend and fellow mama blogger Hannah (I highly recommend following her dreamy blog ALL OF MY DAYS WITH YOU) has started her own self portrait series and it has truly inspired me. After I had Forest, I stopped my style posts, partly because I didn't have the time to keep up (at least as a job) but there was another reason...I couldn't stand to look at a photo of myself. Suddenly I was a mother in new skin, in a new shape and it's still on ongoing struggle to feel comfortable as this new me. Even to the point that if I took a photo with my son, I'm most likely hiding my face or body in some way. Well no more. I've decided to be brave and start my own portrait series. I like these photos because of what I was feeling ...nostalgic and adventurous outside by the mist and the mountains. They represent for me, a time when I felt free and yes beautiful. It's important to feel beautiful, and I hope you do too, dear reader.

Slow Living

We've been appreciating the simplicity of quiet life lately, and it's been wonderfully refreshing. I've been thinking alot about how our culture glorifies being "busy" and how I see so many people caught up in schedules, in routine, in plans, it leaves so little room to just be. You know, that feeling of peace that sinks into your bones to calm and soothe. Not to be making lists or thinking on what needs to be done, just being. Sometimes it's too easy to forget what this is like, which is why Forest and I take at least one hour every day to sit outside and listen to the birds and the wind. It's become my favourite time of day <3
